Majete Thawale Lodge

Majete Wildlife Reserve Cameras

The Majete Thawale Lodge is located in Malawi, Africa. Thawale lies at the gateway to Majete Wildlife Reserve, a completely unfenced camp that provides guests with a unique experience in natural surroundings; a stay here is a safari in its own right. The word ‘thawale’ means a natural pan that fills with water after the rainy season. Wildlife viewing is excellent, whether on game drive or just relaxing at Thawale Lodge watching the waterhole, with its constant procession of animals, including lion, cheetah, wild dog, leopard, eland, buffalo and an elephant herd that regularly frequents the area. In the summer months, birding is excellent. Visitors can explore the far reaches of the reserve – the areas of Pwadzi and Pende – on specialised game drives. Adding to the lure is Thawale Lodge’s conservation model whereby 100% of its revenue goes directly back to the reserve and surrounding communities.

Majete Watch Detection & Survey System

Majete Watch is an AI-powered wildlife monitoring platform that helps viewers discover, identify, and revisit wildlife activity captured on the live cameras in Malawi’s Majete Wildlife Reserve.

About the Camera System

These live wildlife cameras are powered by a custom remote streaming platform developed by PixCams. Each camera is deployed in a remote location throughout Majete Wildlife Reserve, often in areas with no access to commercial power or traditional internet infrastructure.

The systems operate using solar energy and battery storage, allowing them to function continuously in challenging field conditions. Video is transmitted via the Starlink satellite network, enabling reliable live streaming from some of Africa’s most remote wildlife habitats.

At the heart of each installation is the PixCams EZ Streamer Encoder, a cloud-controlled streaming platform specifically designed for remote wildlife monitoring. The cloud management capabilities allow PixCams engineers to remotely configure, monitor, troubleshoot, and update camera systems without needing to physically visit the site. This unique combination of solar power, satellite connectivity, and cloud-controlled streaming technology makes it possible to bring live views of Majete’s wildlife to viewers around the world 24 hours a day.

These camera systems were custom-designed by PixCams to provide a reliable, low-maintenance solution for conservation organizations operating in remote environments, helping connect people worldwide with the wildlife and conservation efforts taking place in Majete Wildlife Reserve.
